United States health care reform: Progress to date and next steps
With this article Barack Obama becomes the first US President to publish an academic paper. In this Special Communication Obama 1) reviews the factors influencing the decision to pursue health reform; 2) summarises evidence on the effects of the Affordable Care Act to date; 3) recommends actions that could improve the health care system; and 4) identifies general lessons for public policy based on experience with the Affordable Care Act. Findings illustrate how the Affordable Care Act has made significant progress toward solving long-standing US health care system challenges related to access, affordability and quality of care.
