A stakeholder consultation process was recently conducted by PHC RIS for the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) to gather input into the development of a Strategic Plan for Phase 3 of the Primary Health Care Research, Evaluation and Development (PHCRED) Strategy.
Over 100 stakeholders were invited to attend one of five workshops held in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth between 10 and 21 September. Written comments were also accepted. Stakeholders included researchers, policy makers, consumers, Non Government Organisations (NGOs) and primary health care practitioners. Workshop participants were delighted with the active participation of DoHA representatives at each workshop.
The implementation of the PHCRED Strategy relies on the engagement of a wide variety of organisations and stakeholders. As such it is important that these groups are encouraged to recognise the value of primary health care research and evaluation, and the role this evidence can play in supporting them to undertake their core business.
This consultation process has been successful in improving communication between DoHA and participants in the current Phase of the PHCRED Strategy. Overall this process has provided a wide range of feedback regarding the draft Strategic Plan, much of which can be used to inform the development of the program over the coming months.
