ASD: 2006-07 Tailored feedback for Divisions

     Sara Howard, PHC RIS

The tailored feedback shows a given Division's responses to selected questions from the Annual Survey of Divisions (ASD). Alongside this are the aggregated responses of all Divisions, Divisions in that state, and Divisions in the same category of urban/rural location, population, population per GP FWE, and proportion of Indigenous population. Therefore, these reports can be used for planning and benchmarking purposes.

Comments from Divisions have confirmed the usefulness of the tailored feedback process. For example, a Division utilised the feedback in an accreditation assessment; others appreciated the opportunity to correct inaccurate information.

Three-quarters of Divisions had submitted the 2006-07 ASD by its due date, 30 September 2007, and all Divisions had submitted their surveys by 6 November – about a month earlier than last year. The data were then processed and checked. On 10 December 2007, also about a month earlier than the last reporting cycle, Divisions were sent draft tailored feedback reports. The improved efficiency of these steps is largely due to refining the web-based survey, now in its second year, as well as Divisions becoming more familiar with it. The introduction of more validity checks and definitions in the 2006-07 survey has further streamlined the collation, checking and analysis of data. Moreover, the new cross-linking feature between the 2006-07 ASD and the 2006-07 Division Annual Reports has hopefully continued to reduce the reporting burden on Divisions of General Practice.

Divisions were asked to notify PHC RIS regarding errors in their ASD responses by 21 December 2007. Nineteen Divisions (16%) reported modifications to PHC RIS with all changes made by 15 January 2008.

A revised version of the tailored feedback was emailed to Divisions on 17 January 2008. A final hard copy of the feedback will be provided once revised estimated resident population (ERP) data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics are available (there is no current timeline for its release).
