The Australian Journal of Primary Health is in the process of significant change. Although ownership of the journal will remain with La Trobe University, the production of the Journal has recently been outsourced to CSIRO Publishing < www.publish.csiro.au>.
CSIRO Publishing is an autonomous business unit within Australia's premier research group, CSIRO. They publish a wide range of scientific research, and have published journals since 1948. The partnership with CSIRO Publishing will significantly enhance the capability of the journal including promotion, functionality and access, for the benefit of both authors and readers. In addition, CSIRO Publishing, with agreement from the owners and through United Nations initiatives, will provide free access to the journal to 69 developing countries.
From the first issue in 2009 there will be four issues of the Journal per year, slightly smaller in size and with a fresh design. Most importantly, there will be full electronic access to current and past issues and it will be fully indexed in the electronic databases. Journal production will be improved through an online submission and peer review system. We anticipate having an impact factor assigned by late 2009.
One issue a year of the journal will still focus on a special theme however, there will be some changes in content, including regular publication of substantial literature reviews and a new letters section.
In the future, renewal notices will come from CSIRO Publishing on a calendar year basis.
Further information on the journal (but in the old format until next year) is available at the journals website <www.publish.csiro.au/journals/py>.
