At 30 June 2007, Divisions reported a total number of 7 361 practices in Australia, continuing the strong downward trend noted since 2000-01 (see Figure 1).
A key feature of this trend has been the decline in the number of solo practices, as GPs move to larger practices.
In contrast, the number of practising GPs further increased in 2007 to 22 868, supporting the established trend (see Figure 2).
In 2007, approximately 12% of GPs worked in solo practices.
