Simon Patterson, PHC RIS
On 28 September 2007 a summary of the Analysis and Review of the 2005-06 National Performance Indicators (NPIs) for the Divisions Network was published on the Department of Health and Ageing website, <www.health.gov.au/internet/wcms/publishing.nsf/Content/div-of-gen-practice-npi>.
This Review was commissioned by the Department and follows the first full cycle of reporting. The objectives of the Review included:
- to undertake a national aggregation and analysis of the NPI data submitted by the Divisions and SBOs in their Annual Reports [2005-06 12 Month Reports].
- to review the NPIs using the criteria of effectiveness, appropriateness and the capacity of Divisions to report.
The webpage (link shown above) contains a "Summary of Analysis Findings" in the National Priority Areas (NPAs) of Governance, Prevention and Early Intervention, Access, Integration & Chronic Disease. These NPAs contain the 51 NPIs. In many cases the analysis is detailed by State. Following this is the Summary of Review findings (regarding the NPIs) and then an Overall Summary of Analysis and Review. We suggest you visit the webpage for the full details.
One role of PHC RIS is to display the Division and SBO Reports on the PHC RIS website. To view the 2005-06 12 Month Reports that the above Analysis is based on visit <www.phcris.org.au/divisions/>. Where available, you can view some or all of the Reports of the next financial year, the 2006-07 12 Month Reports.
In these Division and SBO Reports you will also find information reported in the NPAs of General Practice Support, Quality Support, Consumer Focus and Workforce Support. These NPAs do not contain NPIs. The reporting framework requires that the Divisions and SBOs develop Local Performance Indicators appropriate to their situation within these NPAs. To learn more about this reporting framework, visit <www.phcris.org.au/infobytes/div_framework/>.
