2008 GP & PHC Research Conference: Health for All?

Now in its 14th year, the team behind the GP & PHC Research Conference is faithfully working towards another successful and highly esteemed annual event on the 2008 primary health care research calendar. The aims of the conference are to address and reflect on what we have (and have not) done towards achieving the goal of health for all, whilst also acknowledging the significant 30 year anniversary of the Declaration of Alma-Ata.

We are extremely happy to announce our keynote speakers:

Professor Trisha Greenhalgh OBE, Programme Director of the Unit for Evidence-Based Practice and Policy at PCPS and Professor of Primary Health Care at The University College London. Trisha's research interests include: organisation and delivery of health services, electronic patient records, use of narrative techniques in health services research, policy analysis and systematic review. She is also involved in web based postgraduate courses in primary health care and widening participation in medicine.

Dr Tikki Pang, Director, Research Policy & Cooperation Department, World Health Organization, Geneva, Switzerland, whose research and academic interests include epidemiology, pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis and prevention of infectious diseases, and in health research policy, health research systems, development of research capabilities in developing countries, and linkages between research and policy.

Professor Frances Baum, is Professor and Head of Department of Public Health at Flinders University and Foundation Director of the South Australian Community Health Research Unit. Fran's interests also include research methodologies, political, social & economic health inequities, primary health care systems.

Dr Mark Wenitong is the immediate past president and founding member of the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association (AIDA) and the medical advisor for Apunipima Cape York Health Council.

Call for Abstracts - is now open!! We invite all who wish to contribute to the success of the conference to submit a 250 word abstract by the deadline. The abstract must follow the user friendly proforma, outlined on the PHC RIS website. The call for abstract deadline is Friday 22 February 2008.

This three day conference will be held amongst the picturesque surrounds of Hobart, Tasmania, mountain views to the North and harbour views to the south. Backing onto the long weekend in June, delegates will be able to take full advantage of this opportunity both professionally at the conference and personally through planning either pre or post touring options.
