The RACGP Research Foundation continues to support grassroots GP researchers in 2007 offering $240,000 to college members to conduct research into aspects of general practice in Australia including areas of family health, cardiovascular research, motor vehicle trauma, indigenous health, integrative medicine and more.
The RACGP Research Foundation is committed to building research capacity in general practice by providing a range of prestigious grants, scholarships and awards to GP researchers each year.
In the 2005 financial year, 42.5% of medical visits were to a general practitioner compared with 57.5% for all other medical treatments while only 3.7% of published research related directly to general practice1. The RACGP supports building an evidence base for general practice research literature in Australian from which general practitioners can draw upon to improve clinical practice in Australia.
The RACGP Research Foundation supports and encourages new and emerging researchers to improve their research and presentation skills. RACGP grant recipients have an opportunity to develop collaborative relationships with more experienced researchers in the field and publish their research findings whilst investigating a topic of interest.
Applications close on 8 May 2007. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the RACGP Research Foundation website www.racgp.org.au/researchfoundation for more information or contact:
