ASD facts & figures on-line

     Cecilia Moretti, PHC RIS

PHC RIS is currently developing a facts and figures webpage to facilitate access to information arising from the 2004-05 Annual Survey of Divisions (ASD). The ASD gathers a range of information from all Divisions of General Practice in order to inform policy and planning by describing Divisions' current activities, and comparing and contrasting current details with those collected in previous years. The web page will provide a basic snapshot of the Survey findings, with scope to delve more deeply into specific areas of interest, through web links and references to the report. Web page content will be developed on an ongoing basis. The following 'snapshot' is a brief example of what will be on offer.

Snapshot of Divisions - what do they look like?

One hundred and nineteen Divisions reported on their activities in the 2004-05 ASD. The breakdown of numbers of Divisions, Practices, and GPs by state is provided in Table 1.0.

Divisions reported between four and 14 board members, totalling 999 members. Ninety percent of board members were GPs, with 58 Divisions (42%) reporting having at least one non-GP board member. The performance of the Board of Directors had been appraised in 75 (63%) Divisions, but only 17% were appraised externally.

Divisions reported 1969 staff, representing 1265 FTE. GPs constituted 13% of Divisional workforce, but in fact represented only 3% FTE. Non-GP FTE has increased steadily from 816 FTE in 1998-99 to 1228 FTE in 2004-05.
