There is no doubt that staff turnover can have a negative effect on an organisation. It can lead to a loss of productivity, profitability, corporate knowledge, and skills and competencies. In addition, staff turnover is not just an issue for the organisation experiencing staff turnover; it can also cause headaches for external organisations communicating with them.
It can be hard to maintain a relationship with an organisation with high staff turnover, and it can be difficult to know how to effectively communicate with them through this period. Often correspondence between organisations relies on staff to staff communication, and the loss of one of these members effects the way the organisations interact.
However, as our stakeholders and indeed PHC RIS have experienced staff turnover, it has become one of those things we now expect and plan for. The distribution of orientation packages is a strategy PHC RIS has employed to overcome some of the barriers staff turnover presents.
The orientation packs are way of communicating and restoring corporate knowledge of our organisation. The packages are designed to introduce new staff members to our products, services and staff; and highlight those that are most relevant to them. The orientation packs are a way of communicating in this ever-changing environment and re-establishing a relationship with key members of our network. This is just one way PHC RIS is broadening the communication channels in primary health care.
