Ann-Louise Hordacre, PHC RIS
The Annual Survey of Divisions (ASD) is a comprehensive survey completed by all Divisions of General Practice in Australia to collect information on their membership, activities and infrastructure. Since 1997-1998, PHC RIS has been contracted by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing to conduct the ASD.
Up to 2004-05, the ASD has been conducted using a Microsoft Word document . In response to difficulties in completion and administration of the Word-based survey, PHC RIS is investing considerable effort into converting the Word version of the survey to an online version in time for the 2005-06 ASD. The following provides a brief overview of some of the key issues identified when using Word to complete the ASD and how these can be overcome by using an online web based version for the Survey.
An on-line survey will help Divisions provide accurate and consistent data, and make the process of completion and submission easier. However, it is also worth noting that an on-line survey will speed up the processing of survey data, the provision of feedback and the compilation of the report. This will serve to improve the timeliness and quality of the information that is provided back to all stakeholders (such as the Divisions Network, other policy makers and researchers) assisting informed planning for the future.
