WebsiteWatch

     Colin Gould, PHC RIS

The National Rural Health Alliance is an alliance of 24 member bodies, representing both health consumers and service providers in non-metropolitan areas, whose main objectives are to set up links, affect policy and provide information to improve the health of Australians in rural and remote areas.

Their website provides topical information on their activities such as implementation of the Healthy Horizons framework, organisation of the biennial National Rural Health Conference, management of the Australian Journal of Rural Health and coordination of Friends of the Alliance, a network aimed at facilitating communication between organisations and people interested in rural and remote health issues. In addition you can subscribe to their fortnightly eForum Newsletter for articles and news, or simply browse old issues on-line.

The Rural Health Education Foundation provides independent, accredited education services to general practitioners and other health professionals working in rural and remote Australia.

This is largely done by broadcasting programs on their satellite network, however, did you know that they have also harnessed the power of the internet to provide these programs as web streams? This means that their large archive of quality program material is now available on demand from your computer.

Their website still details the timetable for satellite broadcasts, the location of viewing sites, information about program content and the opportunity to post comments or questions before the broadcast, as well as technical support if you get stuck.

You can find these web sites and many other related links in the PHC RIS eLibrary, and don't forget that the Roadmap of Australian PHC Research (ROAR) contains an ever growing number of searchable researchers, organisations and projects. At the time of publication, the PHC RIS eLibrary contained over 200 records related to rural health - so why not take a look!
