Description: Program of four studies examining bone mass and fracture risk in older adults, and how to increase bone mass and prevent obesity in children

Primary Health Care Project Grants

Establishing the safety and effectiveness of a diagnostic therapeutic trail for asthma in community elderly
Chief Investigator: Dr Robert Adams
University of Adelaide
($395,500)
Description: This research will draw on a representative population sample of older people via a randomized controlled trial to determine the evidence-based components of a diagnostic therapeutic trial and assess which diagnostic questions and medical tests provide greatest assistance for the guidance of general practitioners.

An examination of dose-response relationships for women aged 65-74yr

Description: This study aims to determine the optimum exercise prescription to improve health, minimise injury and misadventure and maximise the beneficial changes in health and functional capacity in females aged 65-74 years.

A cluster randomised controlled trial of Nurse and General Practitioner partnership for care of COPD
Chief Investigator: Prof Nicholas Zwar
University of New South Wales
($442,245)
Description: This project will bring together nurse assistance and care planning in a model of care designed to deliver best practice management of COPD in the community. It will also evaluate the beneficial effects of nurse/GP partnership care on patient's respiratory and overall health.
