The Annual Survey of Divisions (ASD) gathers data from all Divisions of General Practice across Australia, and has been conducted since 1993-94. The data collection reflects the information needs of government, the Divisions network and researchers, by providing analysis and reports on Divisional membership, infrastructure, governance and activities.
Since 2001, PHC RIS has been providing feedback tailored for each Division. On 10 January 2006 , the CEO of each Division was sent a copy of this feedback for the 2004-05 ASD. A number of changes were made to the information provided to Divisions this year in order to enhance the benchmarking capacity and utility of the report. This year, Divisions received information to enable them to compare their responses with those of Divisions in: Australia , the same state, RRMA (Rural Remote Metro Area), and population categories (including population in Division, per GP Fulltime Workload Equivalent, and proportion recorded as Indigenous). In addition, we have provided a summary page for each Division which highlights how their responses differed in comparison to those of other Divisions.
Analysis is now underway for the main ASD report, which is expected to be completed within the next few months. Results in this report will be presented to align with the National Priority Areas defined by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (AGDHA). Once completed, the ASD main report will be distributed to the Divisions Network and will be made available on the PHC RIS website at http://www.phcris.org.au. Additional reports addressing National Priority Areas will also be available when completed.
Planning is continuing for the integration of the ASD with the Planning and Reporting Proforma. Members of the Divisions Network, key stakeholders and AGDHA will be consulted regarding changes to the content and format of the survey.
Which Divisions are most similar to yours?
PHC RIS has a new Benchmarking Tool to help Divisions identify others with the same demographic characteristics as themselves, to complement the new categories provided on the Feedback to Divisions for the ASD 2004-05. For example, some Divisions may be interested in finding Divisions with the same proportion of Indigenous population, others may wish to identify Divisions from the same RRMA and same FWE GP population category as themselves.
The Benchmarking Tool can be accessed at: http://www.phcris.org.au/products/asd/benchmarking_tool.php
