WebsiteWatch: Want to keep abreast with the latest information?

Compiled by Kylie Dixon, PHC RIS

This can now be done with ease. In response to the changing needs of the academic community, many organisations are now actively disseminating information using email 'alert' services.

These regular emails will keep you up-to-date in your area of interest by notifying you of newly published research, upcoming events, journal tables of content, and other types of information based on your chosen criteria. These services are usually free, simple to use and only require that you register.

'Alert' services vary between different organisations, and can often have different names such as 'email alert' and 'electronic information service'. After some investigating we have discovered a few 'alert' services that you may find useful. Here are their details:

Taylor & Francis, the publisher of over 1200 academic peer-reviewed journals, has set up a service called SARA (Scholarly Articles Research Alerting). SARA will deliver by email, tables of contents for journals in your area of interest. Journal subject areas in the Health Science field include Medical Research, Social Medicine and Public Health.
