PHC RIS' purpose is to inform, influence and enhance primary health care practice, policy and research by generating, managing and sharing timely relevant information.
Generate
In 2007 PHC RIS :
- sent PHC RIS eBulletin weekly to 1397 subscribers
- sent the bi-monthly newsletter PHC RIS infonet to over 1050 subscribers
- responded to requests for 950 bound copies of the Annual Survey of Divisions (ASD) 2005-06 and made the web version available for download (downloaded 1700 times)
- commenced the Primary Health Care Research Impact Project Stage 2 to determine the best pathways for research to influence policy and practice
- increased content in the Roadmap Of Australian primary health care Research (ROAR) which received approximately 2500 hits per month
- conducted an analysis of the annual reports from the 26 University Departments supported by PHCRED funding, identifying the importance of career pathways, networks and funding for the development of primary health care researchers
- produced two FOCUS on… bulletins which addressed communities of practice and eHealth for consumers
Manage
In 2007 PHC RIS:
- continually updated and enhanced the design and functionality of the PHC RIS website
- developed a customised purpose built web interface that enabled Divisions and SBOs to complete their 2006-07 Annual Plans, Reports and Survey on-line
- responded to 97% of stakeholders requests (from over 2100) for information within one working day
- produced the Snapshot of Australian primary health care research to highlight the achievements and outcomes of the PHCRED Strategy
- contributed to 13 conferences, 3 newsletters and 11 journal articles

In 2007 PHC RIS:
- with APHCRI and AAAGP, convened the 2007 GP & PHC Research Conference Working together in Sydney , 23-25 May 2007 and attended by almost 400 delegates. The Conference program comprised six workshops, 135 paper presentations, 65 poster displays and four plenary sessions.
- finalised details for the 2008 GP & PHC Research Conference Health for All? To be held in Hobart , 4-6 June 2008
- provided individually tailored feedback (from ASD data) to each Division, SBO and AGPN, highlighting differences and indicating activities they engaged in and Network relationships
- created Fast Facts to make the most of Divisions data. Fast Facts received an average of 1800 hits in its first two months
- staff continued in their roles as knowledge brokers for researchers, policy advisors and other organisations
- continued to promote the activities, achievements and events of researchers, the PHCRED strategy, the Divisions Network and policy advisors through PHC RIS infonet and PHC RIS eBulletin
- continued to collaborate, engage and learn from stakeholders and others to generate, manage and share information about Australian primary health care.
