This position is an opportunity to work with the former Director of the Institute, Professor Garry Jennings on the analysis, interpretation and reporting of data from a large number of surveys collected and curated by the National Heart Foundation. These unique data provide evidence of the attitudes, knowledge and health status of healthy Australians and others with heart disease. This covers intentions and actual self-reported behaviours, covering both lifestyle and clinical risk factors, heart related conditions, interactions with health professionals etc. There is also information on medication adherence.
The main part of the role involves working with Professor Jennings and the National Health Outcomes group of the Foundation to analyse and report these data in the mainstream scientific literature. Key skills required will include analytical, statistical and writing ability. The position is funded from a NHMRC Program Grant held by Professor Jennings at the Institute and is of one-year duration. It is expected that a significant number of publications will be completed during this period. The incumbent will be linked with the Metabolic & Vascular Physiology Laboratory of the Institute headed by Professor Bronwyn Kingwell providing the opportunity to participate in the activities of this vibrant laboratory with basic and clinical science interests in physical activity and nutrition.
